The St. Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music is opening an international exhibition project "In Diaghilev's Circle. The Crossroads of Fates". The exhibition will run from 14 November 2020 to 12 February 2021.
The international exhibition project "In the Circle of Diaghilev. Crossing of Fates" will be the key event of the museum season 2020/2021 and the central event of the International Arts Festival "Diaghilev. P.S." . The exhibition tells the story of the creative path of Sergei Diaghilev, a prominent figure in Russian culture, through his entourage, and is a portrait gallery of those who were involved in the cycle of the great impresario's stormy activity. Portraits of the theatre, music and ballet figures from the first third of the 20th century, created by major Russian and European artists, will be brought together for the first time. Heroes of the exhibition - from Anna Pavlova to Gabrielle Chanel, from Mikhail Fokin to George Balanchine. Artists - from Ilya Repin to Henri Rousseau, from Alexander Benoit and Leo Baxt to Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. The exhibition will feature paintings, graphic and photo works from leading museums of Russia and Europe, including the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the Hermitage, the Pompidou Centre (Paris), the Rouen Art Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum (Madrid), the National Gallery of Modern Art in Turin, and Russian and foreign private collections. Many portraits from foreign collections will be shown in Russia for the first time.
The author of the idea and curator of the project is Natalia Metelitsa, Director of St. Petersburg State Museum of Modern Art and Technology.
