This week on the Russian Seasons video platform will feature our permanent resident, the truly unique and distinctive St. Petersburg Music Hall Theater. Each new production is always an extraordinary piece, combining choreography, vocals, and original performances of the highest caliber with magnificent colours, costumes, decorations, and lighting design.
On Tuesday, May 24 , there will be a broadcast of the musical and visual performance of The Little Prince based on the story by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The popular Russian film and theater actor Vladimir Koshevoy will read an allegorical work by the French thinker and writer, accompanied by the Northern Symphony orchestra, under the direction of maestro Fabio Mastrangelo.
A sand show will accompany the production. Musical and visual accompaniment helps intensify perception, feel the mood of the fairy tale and plunge into the magical atmosphere.
On Thursday, May 26, the audience will be presented with a festive concert "Together with the Century: From the People's House to the Music Hall Theater," which was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the theater. The history of the building, housing one of the most popular musical theaters in St. Petersburg, began 110 years ago: it was here that in 1912 the Emperor Nicholas II People's House complex was expanded to include an auditorium, which functioned as an opera hall for the People's House.
The concert consists of two parts: in the first section, the audience will be given a tour, revealing the birth of the theater and the intricacies of fate, while the second section will show excerpts from the best musicals and musical performances, the premieres of which have recently been held at the theater: "The Great Gatsby," "The Picture of Dorian Gray," "Vinyl", "Silk" and "The Star Ordered?
"We have prepared a very exciting concert with a diverse program, featuring a symphony orchestra, soloists, chorus, ballet, and musical dancers - a real treat for the audience! And, of course, we couldn't help but introduce Chaliapin in our program, because he played a huge role in the development of the theater at the very beginning of the creative life of the People's House," said maestro Fabio Mastrangelo.
As usual, the broadcasts will be available at 19:00 CET.
