The St. Petersburg State Academic Cappella toured Belgium from September 2 to 5, 2021, as part of the international cultural project Russian Seasons. The performances were organized in cooperation with the Russian House in Brussels (Rossotrudnichestvo). The concerts were enjoyed by more than 3,000 European and Russian spectators.
The new season's highlight is a concert program by the St. Petersburg State Academic Cappella Choir, directed by People's Artist of the USSR Vladislav Chernushenko. There were performed pieces of sacred music and folk songs. The national anthems of Russia and Belgium were played.
The troupe toured all over Belgium: Brussels, Flemish, and Walloon. The project was realized thanks to collaborative efforts with Belgian partners, and the best reward was the opportunity to see full auditoriums of guests and spectators. The artists were held up for a long time and asked to play an encore!
Alexander Tokovinin, Russian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, and representatives of federal and regional authorities of Belgium were present at the concerts.
"The festival was scheduled to take place in France, Belgium, and Luxembourg in 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and related restrictions, the main part of the program had a postponement. However, despite the circumstances, "Russian Seasons" is doing everything possible to continue the fine tradition and to please foreign viewers, because the face-to-face meeting evokes a completely different range of emotions." - Alexander Tokovinin.
The concerts featured works by Russian and foreign composers: G. V. Sviridov, S. V. Rachmaninov, D. S. Bortnyansky, P. G. Chesnokov, A. A. Arkhangelsky, S. Mokranets, Z. Mulich.
The soloists were Daria Leibova, Vladimir Miller, Oleg Radchenko, Larisa Radchenko, Ivan Ponomarev, Vladimir Piskovitin, Alexander Kryuchkov, Anna Kozacek, Ekaterina Aleksandrova, Lyudmila Sidenko, Vadim Silenok, Nikolai Kurbatov, Anastasia Bogacheva, George Garyaev, Alexander Orlov, Oleg Trofimov, Vadim Tarakanov, Ekaterina Zavatskaya, Alexandra Somova, Nikolai Kurbatov, Olga Osypchenkova, Nikolai Vinogradov.
On the opening night, September 2, the troupe's concert program was hosted by the Saints Michael and Gudule Cathedral in Brussels, September 3 by the Cathedral in Kortrijk, September 4 by the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Ostend, and September 5 by the Bovri Museum in Liège.
