'Stay Home with Russian Seasons',the online service of the international cultural project 'Russian Seasons', presents a unique video series developed in collaboration with representatives and staff of Russian museums.
At present, Stay Home with Russian Seasons is an exclusive library with flagship stage productions, operatic and ballet performances, shows and concerts that can be enjoyed by viewers from any country of the globe. By this time, more than 38 million people have used the service; in October, the 100th broadcast of 'Stay Home with Russian Seasons' took place, and in November the project received prestigious All-Russian Award 'Culture Online' in the 'Best Online Platform' nomination. Moreover, the service won the award 'ComNews Awards 2020: Digital Technologies Against COVID-19' ('Best Online Concert during the Pandemic' ).
As the online service continues to expand actively, it launches a new video project in English geared up in collaboration with Russian cultural institutions for both foreign and Russian enthusiasts of Russian culture - Discovering Russia with Russian Seasons. Both heads of cultural institutions and guardians of the most treasured museum objects who know every possible detail about them take part in the filming. Local guides and staff will talk about the iconic collections, pay attention to the important details, and share bits of arcane knowledge about the exhibits and the history of the institutions they present. This project will provide an opportunity for all buffs of Russian art to see something that has never been shown online before. Apart from Russian museums, the video collection will include theatres, concert halls, reserves, and more.
In the first issues: video tours over the Peterhof Museum Reserve , the world-renowned palace and park ensemble located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland, the Faberge Museum located in St. Petersburg at the Palace of Naryshkins and Shuvalovs that boasts the unique collection of Russian jewelry and decorative art objects of the 19th and 20th centuries. Besides, everyone will be able to watch a video tour over the Museum of Musical and Theatre Arts - the first museum in Russia dedicated to the history of the Russian theatre that houses over 450,000 exhibits. The fourth issue of the series is going to be dedicated to the oldest academic chapel of St. Petersburg.
Discovering Russia with Russian Seasons will premiere on December 5 at 20:00 Moscow time on the website of 'Russian Seasons'. The first issue will feature a tour across the national museum-reserve 'Peterhof'. All online comers will be able to set off on a historical journey through the illustrious parade halls of the Grand Peterhof Palace, including the Chesmensky Hall, Dance Hall, Throne Hall, White Dining Room and Parade Stairs of 1751. For 200 years, Peterhof was bearing the status of summer residence of Russian Emperors, from Peter the Great to Nicholas II. Today, the Museum-Reserve is one of the most visited museum in Russia, with more than 6 million visitors in 2019.
'Twice, Peterhof participated in the international program 'Russian Seasons'. First, in 2018, when the outstanding works of art have travelled from Peterhof to Palermo, bringing along pieces of china, bronze, and paintings made by the best artists and artisans of Russia, Italy, England, and France. Thus, the leading Russian museum-reserves such as Gatchina, Peterhof, Pavlovsk and Tsarskoye Selo, demonstrated the Italian audience the pride of their collections for the first time as part of the exhibition 'Century of Museums. 100 Masterpieces from Imperial Residences of Russia: Peterhof, Tsarskoye Selo, Pavlovsk, Gatchina'. In December 2019, the program of 'Russian Seasons' in Germany included the exhibition 'Czar Treasures. Rarities of Peterhof' showcasing over 170 authentic art objects that illustrated the history of the Russian Empire and life of its rulers, from Peter the Great to Catherine II. This year, due to the global virus outbreak, the museum couldn't present its collection to the European public. Nonetheless, due to the advanced technologies, we can 'ignore the borders' today and provide the viewers worldwide an opportunity to enjoy the interiors of the glamorous Grand Peterhof Palace with the video tour of the 'Stay Home with Russian Seasons' project,' noted Elena Kalnitskaya, General Director of the Peterhof National Reserve-Museum.
The video tours dedicated to the prominent cultural institutions of Russia will be webcast on the website of 'Russian Seasons' on Saturdays . Subtitled in English specifically for people with hearing impairments, each video is approximately 30 minutes long.
'We are happy to present this new project as part of our online service. Alongside the leading cultural institutions, we started filming a video series dedicated to the culture of Russia in English language. We extend our thanks to our partners and participants of 'Russian Seasons' for their support and assistance in the implementation of the project.
An important feature of our videos is that the staff of cultural institutions take an active part in their production. We do hope that the launch of the new video project will help show the national distinctiveness and diversity of Russia, and its culture and values will become even closer for foreign audiences,' argued the Director of 'Russian Seasons' Alexey Lebedev.
