ILIA AVERBUKH TO PRESENT "CARMEN ON ICE" IN DÜSSELDORF

On November 9-10, 2019,the "Carmen" ice-skating musical, one of the most expensive and spectacular productions by the Russian producer Ilia Averbukh, will be performed in Germany. The event is incorporated in the program of the international cultural project "Russian Seasons".

The most extraordinary rendition of the popular plot can be seen in the ISS DOME arena in Düsseldorf. The strongest Russian ice skaters – Olympic champions, winners of national and international championships – will introduce the audience to the sensual Spanish ways. The show features Povilas Vanagas, Roman Kostomarov, Oksana Domnina, Maria Petrova, Alexei Tikhonov, Albena Denkova, Maxim Stavisky, Vladimir Besedin, Alexei Polishchuk et al.

Colorful and charismatic Margarita Drobiazko – thirteen-time Lithuanian Champion, two-time European medalist, winner of the World Championship in ice dancing with Povilas Vanagas – stars as Carmen. The ice skater remarks: 'To me, this part is the most significant and probably the best-loved one. It suits me to a T by its motion style, temperament, and expressiveness.'

The favorite of figure skating buffs, Olympic Champion, two-time World Champion and three-time European Champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov stars as the police officer Jose.

The grand show will bring together 80 artists in the aggregate. More than 200 stylistically designed, exclusively tailored costumes and several tons of multi-level stage sets will be employed. The audience will find themselves in a genuine Spanish town with a small chapel, square, and a seaport. The musical's action unfolds  on three tiers at once: on ice, on a music platform, and on a bridge.

One of the specific features of the production is the combination of the classical and modern music. Thus, the ice-skating show is staged to the music by contemporary Russian composer Roman Ignatiev based on Georges Bizet's brilliant score. Russian musical artists will be singing live, and a company of dancers will present an impressive flamenco.

Premiered in 2015, "Carmen on Ice" triumphantly toured Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other Russian cities. Since its first performances the show was hailed one of the most spectacular performances of today. At the Open Arts Festival "Chereshnevy Les" in Moscow, "Carmen on Ice" received the Oleg Yankovsky "Art Discovery" Awards.

'We've put our heart and soul into this show. Our "Carmen" is brimming with passions and vibrant colors!' says producer Ilia Averbukh.
