On Thursday, September 17, 'Russian Seasons' will present Giacomo Puccini's opera 'Manon Lescaut' at https://www.russianseasons.org/. Recorded in 2018 at the Kirov Central Park of Culture and Recreation on Elagin Island, the production is represented by the St. Petersburg 'Music-Hall' Theatre.
This musical stage play features artists of the Mariinsky Theatre, 'St. Petersburg Opera' Theatre, St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by People's Artist Sergei Stadler, Choir of St. Petersburg 'Music-Hall' Theatre.
'Manon Lescaut' (1893) is the story of a young beauty based on the popular novel 'The Story of the Chier des Grieux and Manon Lescaut' penned by Abbé Antoine François Prevaux. Young beauty Manon Lescaut agrees to become the rich man Geronte de Ravoir's mistress but falls in love with de Griet, a poor student. The composition is a veritable hymn of love, as the main characters endure hardships to stay together.
The opera was shown as part of the VII International 'All Together Opera' Festival.
